More About Nyjer Seed

A seed that goldfinches and other birds love, Nyjer seed grows primarily in Ethiopia and India. Like all other seed entering North America, it is steam treated prior to sale to kill all weeds that may be present. One such weed, dodder, is considered a noxious weed. Keep in mind that this small, black birdseed requires a special tube feeder with very tiny holes. If you place it in regular feeders, most will end up on the ground instead of with the song birds it is intended for. Nyjer seed is rich in fat (+/-40%) and protein (+/-18%) and is a life-supporting food, especially during the winter months.

Bring a little of the wilderness to your back door with Nyjer seed from United Farmer’s Co-Op. Please feel free to call or fill out our contact form if you have any questions about our products.
